The Warisan Ritual
Nasi kerabu is not simply served.. It is assembled slowly, according to taste.
At the centre of the plate is blue rice cooked with coconut milk and aromatic herbs, its distinctive colour drawn from bunga telang. Around it are fresh ulam, vegetables, sambal, budu, serunding, salted egg, solok lada and crisp keropok.
Each element brings something different to the plate. The herbs add freshness. Sambal brings heat. Budu contributes salt and depth, while lime lifts everything with acidity. Ayam percik and udang bakar add richness, smoke and the warmth of the grill.
No two plates need to be alike. Guests choose what to add, how much sambal to use and how strongly to season each mouthful. Some bites are herbaceous and bright. Others are smoky, savoury and rich.
Makan dengan tangan or eating by hand, is an important part of the experience. The rice, herbs, sambal and accompaniments are brought together with the fingertips, allowing each bite to be shaped before it is eaten.
As the meal unfolds, hands reach across the table for another piece of chicken, more sambal, a handful of herbs or an extra squeeze of lime. The act of eating becomes increasingly communal, informal and generous.
The plate changes with every mouthful.
Every bite is different. Every plate, your own.
Eating by Hand
Warisan
A communal heritage table.
Warisan is KARA’s communal dining experience inspired by the food traditions of Kelantan, a state in northeastern Malaysia near the Thai border. At its centre is nasi kerabu, aromatic rice naturally tinted blue with butterfly pea flower, served with fresh herbs, vegetables, sambal and a generous spread of savoury accompaniments.Blue rice is served with fresh ulam, sambal, kerisik, solok lada, salted egg, udang bakar and ayam percik. Guests build each plate to their own taste, balancing herbs, smoke, heat, salt and acidity in every bite.
Generous and communal, Warisan is best enjoyed by hand, though cutlery is always available.
Every bite is different. Every plate, your own.

Your Host
KARA was created and is personally hosted by GK. He cooks each menu himself and has hosted intimate dinners for friends and guests in Singapore and Brunei. His travels through Asia and Europe, and the meals and places that have stayed with him, continue to shape how he thinks about ingredients, technique, hospitality and the experience around the table.Atelier expresses this curiosity through a contemporary tasting experience shaped by contrast and progression, with familiar Asian flavours meeting European technique. Warisan draws on GK’s Kelantanese heritage, centred on the food traditions and memories surrounding nasi kerabu.KARA was created around the kind of evening GK values most: a carefully prepared meal shared around one table, with a pace that allows conversation to unfold and guests to feel at ease. Each evening is reserved for one private group. GK remains closely involved throughout, from welcoming guests and presenting each course to shaping the rhythm of the evening. The intention is simple: to make every guest feel genuinely hosted, not merely served.

What KARA Stands For
The name KARA draws inspiration from words that reflect the spirit of the table. In Italian, cara is a term of affection, meaning dear or beloved. In Irish, cara means friend. The spelling also recalls the Malay word cara, meaning a way or manner of doing something.Together, they suggest the spirit KARA seeks to create: a table for people who matter, hosted with care and shaped by a shared dining experience.KARA is expressed through two distinct dining experiences, Atelier and Warisan. Each booking is for one experience, shared by the entire table.Atelier is KARA’s contemporary expression, shaped by contrast and progression, with familiar Asian flavours meeting European technique.Warisan is KARA’s heritage expression, rooted in GK’s Kelantanese background and the food traditions of Malaysia’s East Coast. It is a generous, communal table built around herbs, sambal, coconut, fire and the experience of eating by hand.Their flavours and formats are different, but the intent remains the same: thoughtful food, careful pacing and warm, personal hosting.Different expressions. Same intent.
